Our Vision and Values
At St Barnabas and St Philip's Church of England Primary School we are inspired by the conviction that each person is unique in God's love and yet that together we form one united school community. Our school vision is for us to:
Nurture, Grow, Flourish
Rooted in Christian values, together we work to nurture, grow, and flourish, to fulfil our unique potential.
This vision highlights the value we give to our school's wide cultural and social diversity and affirms our belief that by allowing each pupil, parent and teacher to share their talents and gifts, hopes and passions, we can best grow together and prepare our pupils for life-long learning.
Our school values of Wisdom, Perseverance, Joy, Hope, Community and Compassion are woven into the very fabric of the school and we expect all members of the school community to model them. They orientate the way we do things in the school and find their inspiration and strength in God's love for us.
‘Church of England schools offer a community where everyone is a person known and loved by God, supported to know their intrinsic value.'
The Most Reverend Justin Welby, Archbishop of Canterbury
The distinctive nature of our approach to education can be found in our explicit Christian values, our collective worship, our grounded Christian ethos and in our Religious Education. We aim to provide ambitious learning opportunities, promoting achievement in every area and nurturing social, emotional and spiritual well-being. We value highly our inclusive environment that welcomes children and staff of all faiths and none.
We aim to equip our children with the knowledge and cultural capital that they need to succeed in life. Cultural capital is the essential knowledge that pupils need to be educated citizens, introducing them to the best that has been thought and said and helping them to engender an appreciation of human creativity and achievement.
Character and resilience are the qualities, the inner resources that we call on to get us through the frustrations and setbacks that are part and parcel of life. We work to instil these qualities in our children and make sure that they are ready to make their way in the world as robust and confident individuals.
As our children gain confidence, knowledge and skills we hope that they will go on to become compassionate, well balanced young people. They will take their place in society as active citizens, economically independent, exemplifying the British values of equality, tolerance, democracy, individual liberty and rule of law.
As a Church school we believe every child is made in the image of God, and therefore we want the best for them. We value our school community as a place where love can flourish.
